All CUSD high schools will be using the Cum Laude recognition program. This will replace the concept of designating a valedictorian and salutatorian at graduation. This recognition program will be used to acknowledge the most academically successful students at graduation. More of our outstanding seniors will be recognized than the valedictorian/salutatorian concept allowed. The categories for distinction under the Cum Laude recognition program are as follows:

• Summa Cum Laude - meaning "with the highest praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 4.5 - 5.0 GPA, white stole.

• Magna Cum Laude - meaning "with great praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 4.25 - 4.49 GPA, silver stole.

• Cum Laude - meaning "with praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 3.75 - 4.24 GPA, black stole.

Senior AP Awards
 

National AP Scholar (white cord) Granted to students who

receive an average score of at least a 4 on all AP exams taken,

and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
 

AP Scholar with Distinction (silver cord) Granted to students

who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams

taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
 

AP Scholar with Honors (black cord) Granted to students who

receive an average grade of 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and

grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
 

AP Scholar (purple cord) Granted to students who receive

grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
